What's the difference?

Japanese people usually use "は" and "が” naturally,

however it seems to be a little difficult for people or students who are studying Japanese.

Japanese language experts are still researching "は" and "が".

I know it is the difficult "は" and "が",

but I want you to feel and understand how to use them properly even if just a little.

What is the question for 「これは時計です。」?

The answer is

Ｑ．「これは何ですか？」
Ａ．「これは時計です。」

Then, what is the question for 「これが時計です。」?

The answer is

Ｑ．「どれが時計ですか？」
Ａ．「これが時計です。」

Do you understand?

Look for the important words.

The most important word in this sentence「これは時計です。」is 「時計」.

The most important word in this sentence「これが時計です。」is 「これ」.

Important words are after「は」 and before 「が」.

Interrogative words are the most important words.

Therefore, it is impossible to put interrogative words before "は" such as 「どれは時計ですか？」, and after "が" such as 「これが何ですか？」.

どうちがいますか？

日本人は普通に「は」と「が」を使い分けていますが、

「は」の後ろに、「が」の前にあります。

なので

「どれは時計ですか？」

のように

「は」の前に疑問詞がつくことはありませんし、

「これが何ですか？」

のように

「が」の後ろに疑問詞がつくことはありません。
